North Central Province, Sri Lanka — In alignment with their ongoing commitment to promoting public health and rural community care, the Shri Hela Cultural Collaboration Foundation (SHCCF) and the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (SMM IHRC) successfully organized a one-day "Free Eye Clinic and Ophthalmology Counseling Treatment" program.

The medical camp, held on November 20, 2021, provided specialized ophthalmic consultations, clinical treatments, and eye care guidance to low-income residents in rural areas across the North Central Province.

Over 100 Rural Residents Benefit from Ophthalmic Care

According to Dr. Chrishantha J.K.M. Dissanayake, Founder, President, and Director General of the SHCCF and Sri Lankan Commissioner of the IHRC, nearly 102 individuals from three rural villages benefited from the medical diagnostic services.

Following comprehensive examinations by eye care specialists:

  • 36 patients were identified with critical eye conditions and advised to undergo surgical procedures alongside clinical treatments.
  • 48 patients were prescribed custom reading and corrective spectacles.
  • 18 patients received preventative treatment and counseling that resolved their minor optical discomforts without requiring further medical intervention or spectacles.
