Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala (March 02, 2024) — Supporting community empowerment and youth development, Dr. Chrishantha J.K.M. Dissanayake, Sri Lankan Commissioner of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) and Founder, President, and Director General of the Shri Hela Cultural Collaboration Foundation (SHCCF), attended a major voluntary social care initiative as the Chief Guest.
Organized by the trainees of the Kuliyapitiya Vevagama National Youth Corps (NYC) following their official training period, the event took place at the Vevagama Youth Corps Center.
Educational Equipment Distributed to 70 Vulnerable Students
Recognizing the impactful humanitarian work conducted across Sri Lanka by the IHRC and SHCCF, Major S.T.J.S. Rosa, Officer-in-Charge of the Kuliyapitiya National Youth Corps, invited Dr. Dissanayake to grace the occasion and inspire the young trainees.
During the program, essential school equipment and educational supplies valued at over LKR 350,000 were distributed to underprivileged students from surrounding Grama Niladhari divisions, including Vevagama, Diyawala, and Degammedda within the Kuliyapitiya Divisional Secretariat Division:
- 50 children entering Grade 01 for the first time received complete primary school starter packages.
- 20 low-income students preparing for their G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examinations were provided with critical academic materials.
Fostering Compassion and Positive Attitudes in Youth
Praising the trainees for their dedication to social care, Dr. Chrishantha Dissanayake pledged that the IHRC and SHCCF will issue prestigious annual Social Evaluation Certificates to youth engaged in community service. He reaffirmed the commitment of both organizations to continuously guide and support the younger generation in leading community-building efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Center Commander Major S.T.J.S. Rosa expressed deep gratitude to the IHRC and SHCCF for their national community service. He highlighted that involving youth in voluntary welfare initiatives instills compassion, empathy, and positive civic attitudes, helping shape responsible future leaders for Sri Lanka.
